Cauliflower
Cauliflowers are a vegetable that fall under the Brassicaceae family. It is believed to have emanated from ancient Asia, but today India, France, Italy, and even the U.S. are cultivators of this wonder vegetable. Cauliflower is made up of tightly bound clusters of soft, crumbly, sweet cauliflower florets that form a dense head. Typically, people only cook and eat the white “head” of cauliflower, as the tough stem and leaves have a tendency to cause digestion issues.
Usage
Cauliflower heads can be roasted, grilled, boiled, fried, steamed, pickled, or eaten raw. When cooking, the outer leaves and thick stalks are typically removed, leaving only the florets. The leaves are also edible, but are most often discarded. The florets should be broken into similar-sized pieces so they are cooked evenly. After eight minutes of steaming, or five minutes of boiling, the florets should be soft, but not mushy. Stirring while cooking can break the florets into smaller, uneven pieces. Cooked and used in soups, rice, curries, gobi parathas, one of the most liked recipes.
